The Spear Foundation Charity Golf Day
In November 2025, the SMS Group Services team had an incredible day at The Spear Foundation Charity Golf Day at Wembley Golf Course. We were proud to come on board as a sponsor for the longest drive in this fantastic event, which brought together businesses and the community to support the excellent work of the Spear Foundation.
The Spear Foundation is an Aboriginal-led organisation that delivers programs that empower individuals, strengthen families, and build connections across communities. It was a great day of friendly competition, all while raising funds to help The Spear Foundation continue making a difference across Western Australia.
A big thank you to the organisers, volunteers, and everyone who made the day such a success. SMS is proud to support such an inspiring cause!
On the Road Again Tours
On the Road Again Tours is a motoring event for 4WD, SUV or any car that has the required modifications and safety equipment to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service WA operations.
In August 2022, the SMS 1992 Ford F250 ambulance joined the OTRA Tours ‘Convent Run’ to Dalwallinu. They experienced a slight hiccup en route, with the ambulance breaking down. With no hire vehicles in the area, the team expanded their bash fleet with the addition of Rambo, son of Ambo, to get the crew to their destination.
The run raised much-needed funds for the RFDS and their excellent rural work.
TOUR OF COWARAMUP
SMS Group Services is exceptionally proud to be the 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and now 2025 naming rights sponsor of the Tour of Cowaramup (https://piet.com.au/tour-of-cowaramup) (formerly Tour de Gracetown).
In its 12th year, the Tour De Cowaramup boasts a 130km Gran course, 85km Medio course and 60km Piccolo course of challenging terrain throughout the Southwest. All proceeds from this phenomenal social community ride go to charities in support of cancer research, including:
- The Ladybird Foundation (in support of women’s cancer research)
- Prostate Cancer Help Association (PCaHELP)
In 2021, the SMS 1992 Ford F250 ambulance led the way for cyclists and was driven by SMS founder Mark Welsh, pictured below.
Scottish Masonic Charity Golf Open
SMS Group Services has sponsored the annual Scottish Masonic Charity Golf Open since 2020. The day aims to raise funds for the Scottish Masonic Charitable Foundation of WA and their work within the WA community.
Over the last few years, they have raised over $85,000 for worthwhile causes such as Surf Lifesaving WA, RSLWA, Lung Foundation Australia, CancerWA, and The Salvation Army.
BulldustNBack Trial Event
Since 2021, the SMS Group Services Managing Director, Mark Welsh, has participated in the annual BulldustNBack Trial event in his vehicle of choice, a 1992 Ford F250 ambulance with a Windsor 351 engine.
The BulldustNBack Trial is a not-for-profit, four-day motoring adventure that leads drivers in wacky and wonderful old cars through WA’s outback, raising money for local children’s cancer and youth mental health charities.
The team will again fire the SMS ambulance for the 2022 BNB event. Find out more here.
