Karara Mining Limited
Whilst in the position of Maintenance Manager at the Karara Mine site from 2013 to 2018, SMS played a fundamental role in our integrated Maintenance Team. In 2011, SMS were awarded the access package for the supply of confined spacing equipment and personnel for the initial construction of the Karara Mining magnetite processing plant. They transitioned from construction into commissioning and in 2013 secured a 3-year operations and maintenance contract. This contract was renewed in 2016 and again in 2019. SMS were also awarded the Confined Space Management contract in 2016. SMS are key players in all Major Shutdowns at KML, supplying more than 120 personnel and 500 tonnes of equipment.
Throughout my dealings, I have found SMS to be very professional, client focused, and team orientated. Their positive attitude and problem solving supported by exemplary safety standards is reflected in their 9-year tenure as access providers at KML. BHP Ravensthorpe
After participating in the Greenfields construction phase, SMS were selected as the principle maintenance/ operations scaffolding contractor for the BHP Ravensthorpe mine-site.
They assisted in establishing site procedures, day to day scaffolding priority planning requirements and more complex shutdown activities, which included total management of individual projects.
This was the first of two major projects that I worked with SMS and experienced their professional attitude towards new and complex issues.
Karara Mining Limited
SMS have been contracted to work for Karara Mining Limited since 2011 on the initial construction of the concentrator plant. During this time SMS have been an excellent contractor, always committed to the construction goals, reliable, and a pleasure to work with. SMS were employed directly by Karara Mining Limited, and pre-qualified as a tier 1 contractor. They supplied:
- Full yard and staff set-up, 2000 tonnes of scaffolding
- Crew of 50 plus
- Site management and supervision, and
- Safety advisors
I would recommend their services and hope to work with them on future projects.
Karara Mining Limited
SMS easily transitioned from the construction phase of the Karara Iron Ore Plant through to the operations and maintenance stage. SMS supply up to 130+ personnel during major shutdowns.
During their time with KML, SMS have been an outstanding contractor, with the commitment to get the job done in a safe and timely manner. SMS self-manage and control all scaffolding access activities, which has made them a pleasure to work with and I would not hesitate to recommend them to any potential client.
